Is it alright to talk to yourself?

I ask the question almost jokingly because there have been so many times I have found myself carrying on various discussions with compelling arguments and I have been known to verbalize quite eloquently – with no one else in the room with me.

I believe there are three basic rules that apply when talking to yourself:

  1. It is alright to talk to yourself.
  2. It is alright to answer yourself.
  3. If you ever ask, “Wait a minute, could you please repeat that?” – seek medical attention immediately.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Dr. Tony Allesandra last weekend at the National Speakers Association meeting in Tampa, Florida.  For those who do not know him, Dr. Allesandra is the person who originated the idea of “The Platinum Rule”.  Paraphrased: don’t do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Instead, do unto others as they would have you do unto them.

I just read a great post by Dr. Allesandra on the ten rules of listening.  It is an excellent read and I recommend it.
