Was it really only 238 years ago?

That seems like a long time from the perspective of an individual lifetime.  It even seems like a long time when you see it from the perspective of America.  After all, we are a young country.

But when you visit places in Europe or the middle east – 238 years is only a drop in the bucket.  238 years is no big deal at all.

However, when you look at the impact made by a relatively small group of people – 238 years ago in America was a big, big deal indeed.

When our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence – they weren’t saying, “We think this is a pretty good idea.”  They weren’t saying, “We think the king should really consider letting us do this.”

When they signed that document, they were drawing a line in the sand and saying, “For this – we will fight!  For this – we will die if needed!”[lightbox link=”https://jeffcwest.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/founding-fathers.jpg” thumb=”https://jeffcwest.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/founding-fathers.jpg” width=”300″ align=”right” title=”founding fathers” frame=”true” icon=”image” caption=””]

Because they had that passion and were willing to fight for their cause – The United States of America began to exist.  A super-power both economically and militarily was born.  And a dream became a reality.  That dream being that ALL people are endowed by the Creator with certain unalienable rights.

You have the right to life, liberty and to pursue happiness.  You do NOT have the guarantee of happiness.  Only the guarantee that you can pursue it. You have the right to equal opportunity – not equal results.

Are you wasting that right?

Why do you do what you do?  What is it that means so much in your life that you would be willing to fight the great battles in order to succeed?  Is it your family?  Is it your house?

I don’t know what it is for you.  I do know what it is for me.

Find your why.

QUESTION:

What is it that means the most to you in your life?
